Recent Changes in Legal Interest Rates and Penalty Increases

Presidential decrees concerning amendments to legal interest and penalty rates on Public
Receivables were issued and published in the Official Gazette dated May 21, 2024. According to the decree pertaining to the annual legal interest rate, as stipulated in Article 1 of Law No. 3095 on Legal Interest and Default Interest, effective from June 1, 2024, the annual rate is set at 24%. This represents a significant increase from the previous rate of 9%. Additionally, in accordance with Article 51 of Law No. 6183 on the Procedure for Collection of Public Receivables, the delay hike interest rate has been adjusted to 4.5% per month, replacing the previous rate of 4%.
